Shadow Collection Workshop

Updated: Aug 23

On June 28th, the corner of Fulton and Tippah Park came alive with creativity, connection, and sunshine as neighbors of all ages joined us for our community Shadow Workshop Day, hosted in partnership with the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association and funded through the city of Charlotte.

What made the day so special wasn’t just the activity itself, but the people who came together—big and small, kids with boundless imaginations, parents lending their creativity, and longtime residents eager to see their neighborhood transformed. Each person left their mark in the most literal sense: through shadows, outlines, and playful designs inspired by both nature and one another. 🌿

We chased the sunlight and experimented with shapes, turning everyday objects into whimsical art. Adults rediscovering a sense of play while sharing stories of what Plaza Midwood means to them. It was a reminder that art isn’t just about the final product, it’s about the joy of creating together.

Every shadow traced, every leaf outlined, every figure sketched became part of a growing tapestry that reflects the heart of this community. These designs will serve as inspiration for the larger project—a colorful, welcoming, and community-centered transformation at the center of Fulton & Tippah Park.

The workshop was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of neighbors coming together, meeting each other in new ways, and seeing their voices reflected in art. I left the day filled with gratitude, inspired by the laughter, the curiosity, and the openness of everyone who participated.

This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to continue weaving the creativity of Plaza Midwood into something lasting and magical.

💛 Thank you to everyone who joined, shared, and created—you are the heart of this project.
