9.17/24.25 SAIL Art Club

The first week of Art Club, our artists explored artist-made paper. Instead of using store-bought collage paper, we created our own unique textures and designs. With that foundation, during week 2, students moved on to making articulating paper dolls, a playful form of movable, kinetic paper sculpture. Using brad fasteners, cut paper, and their handmade collages, each student designed a figure, added clothing, and finished it with drawings and details.

Some students were able to complete theirs, while others chose to continue refining their creations. By the end of this week, every doll will go home if it hasn't already.

Our K–2 group focused on tracing and carefully cutting their artist-made paper, a skill-building activity that took focus and patience. Meanwhile, our 3–5 graders stretched their imaginations, creating elaborate designs. Some added accessories like guitars, while others replaced an arm with a tentacle!

This semester, each class is co-led by me and my artist friend, Virginia. We start together with a group introduction, then split into two sections within the same room.

We’re so proud of everyone's creativity our students are showing, and we’re excited to dive into our next project together!
