Joy in the Shadows
Elizabeth Palmisano is a Charlotte-based public artist and muralist known for her immersive, community-driven art. Her work centers on placemaking and storytelling, often using color and texture to transform everyday spaces into places of inspiration and inclusion. With a strong background in public art collaborations, she brings both creative vision and deep community engagement experience to every project.
This is a community-driven public art installation coming to the intersection of Fulton Avenue and Tippah Park Court in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood neighborhood.
Inspired by the quiet beauty found in everyday moments, this piece serves as both a metaphor and a declaration. Joy in the Shadows started with a simple effort: neighbors coming together to tackle litter at a key neighborhood entrance. The project turns a problem into a celebration, transforming a neglected space into a vibrant, welcoming landmark. It’s a reflection of Plaza Midwood’s identity, a neighborhood where residents show up, take pride, and care deeply about the environment they share.
In collaboration with the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association and supported by a City of Charlotte grant from the Center for Urban Design. Palmisano will collect and incorporate real imagery and reflections from the people who live, work, and walk here. Joy in the Shadows will stand as a testament to the unique spirit of Plaza Midwood, where creativity, care, and community intersect.
